Jose Ramirez homered in the sixth inning off Gerrit Cole as part of a three-hit performance as the visiting Cleveland Guardians recorded a 5-4 victory over the New York Yankees on Wednesday night.
After hitting doubles in three straight at-bats in Tuesday's 9-4 victory, Ramirez grounded out in his first at-bat before hitting a single in the fourth and a homer off Cole (1-1).
Ramirez gave the Guardians a 4-2 lead when he lifted a 2-2 fastball into the second deck in right field inside the foul pole.
Ramirez's homer, his third career blast off Cole, gave him 11 hits in 26 career regular-season at-bats against the right-hander.
A seven-time All-Star, Ramirez homered for the first time since May 18 against Detroit. The switch-hitting third baseman added a single in the eighth off lefty Tim Hill and scored three runs.
Kyle Manzardo homered for the second straight night when he lifted Cole's 2-2 knuckle curve into the right field seats for a 1-0 lead in the second. Rhys Hoskins hit a two-run homer in the fourth, snapping a 1-1 tie by sending Cole's 1-0 slider down the left field line.
Hoskins added an RBI single in the eighth to score Ramirez following a double by Manzardo. Hoskins' base hit wound up being the game-winner when Cade Smith allowed a sacrifice fly to Bellinger in the ninth before securing his major-league-leading 21st save.
Cleveland starter Gavin Williams (9-3) allowed three runs on four hits in 5 1/3 innings. Williams struck out six, walked one and won his fourth straight start.
Jazz Chisholm hit a tying homer into the second deck in right field off Williams' full count fastball in the second. Jose Caballero homered just over left fielder Angel Martinez's leaping try in the fourth to make it a one-run contest.
Following a pair of scoreless outings in his return from reconstructive elbow surgery that cost him 2025, Cole allowed four runs on six hits in 5 1/3 innings. He struck out two and walked one.
The Yankees lost their second straight game without Aaron Judge, who was seen by a specialist earlier Wednesday after being diagnosed with a bruised rib. The Yankees were awaiting the results.
