Apple's app store hits 50 billion downloads as Ohio man wins 10000 dollars

A resident of Ohio Brandon Ashmore has won the jackpot prize of 10000 dollars by downloading Apple's 50 billionth application.

Apple had earlier announced that it had come close to 50 billion iPhone and iPad app downloads since the firm's launch in 2008 and declared 10000 dollars worth gift card for the person who reaches the milestone, ABC News reports.

According to the report, Apple had started off with its app store in 2008 with 500 apps, which has now reached 8,50,000 iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch apps, with more than 350,00 iPad specific apps.

While Apple celebrated the 10th anniversary of iTunes earlier this month, Google's android store will soon be reaching the target of 48 billion android downloads from its play store.

The report said that Google has also announced a host of new features and services for app developers, including ways to build apps that take advantage of the phones' sensors and methods for translating apps into other languages.

Google All Access Play Music service and its new Hangouts Messaging app have come up as its new consumer products which will possibly see more downloads happening in the near future, the report added. (ANI)
